The Nashville Entrepreneur Center is more than a place for visionary business people and companies. The Trolley Barns facility also has a hall of fame. The range and depth of the Nashville entrepreneurial community is on display with the hall’s inductees, who made their mark in fields that include publishing, hospital management, finance, fulfillment and music business. Combined, the honorees have created thousands of jobs nationwide — but also close to home.
Nashville Post commends this quintet of entrepreneurs for their work and the legacies they have created.
Dan Crockett, president, CEO and board chairman at Franklin-based Franklin American Mortgage, has skillfully melded a business within the understated financial sector with the more visible naming sponsorship of a college football bowl game.
It’s a strong one-two punch that is recognized via the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl and that has garnered local praise. Scott Ramsey, president and CEO of the Nashville Sports Council Inc. and Music City Bowl Inc., praises Crockett for his commitment to the region.
"Dan Crockett is one of the corporate and civic leaders that makes Nashville such a great city,” Ramsey says. “He is engaged and supportive of many different initiatives, including the nonprofit and charitable sectors of our community. We are proud to have a positive relationship with Dan, and because of Dan's commitment as title sponsor, the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl delivers positive economic benefit to Nashville on an annual basis.”
Crockett purchased Franklin American Mortgage in September 1994, guiding it from a small brokerage operation to, according to what the company bills itself, one of the top 15 mortgage banking companies in the nation. Today, Franklin American Mortgage also has offices in California, Massachusetts and Texas.
Prior to serving as the company’s president and CEO, Crockett was a financial planner with J.H. Shoemaker & Co. in Memphis. Crockett earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Lambuth University in 1991 and is a graduate of the MBA School of Mortgage Banking. He is a member of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers, the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association and the Tennessee Association of Mortgage Brokers. He is a former board of trustees member for Belmont University.
Crockett currently serves on the Nashville Chapter of Junior Achievement and the executive board of the Nashville Sports Council as well as the board of trustees for Avenue Bank, Franklin Road Academy and the Tennessee Golf Foundation.
