Healthways wins, extends fitness contracts
Healthways and Windsor Health Plan Inc. have agreed to terms allowing Windsor to offer the much sought-after SilverSneakers wellness program, an exercise and wellness regime for older adults, to eligible employees.
“By offering SilverSneakers, Windsor Health Plan is fulfilling the needs of its members by promoting wellness, embracing innovation and pursuing excellence in the delivery of health care,” said Ben R. Leedle, Jr., Healthways’ president and CEO.
The program was founded in 1993 and serves more than nine million eligible members. The Healthways fitness center network offers access to more than 15,000 participating fitness and wellness facilities nationwide.
According to a statement released today, the agreement governing the program states that all eligible members of Windsor’s Medicare Advantage HMO plans in Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia may participate in the Silver Sneakers offering.
Windsor Health Plan serves more than 59,000 Medicare Advantage HMO plan members in eight states and approximately 131,000 PDP members in 21 states.
And not to be outdone by an in-house competitor of sorts, Healthways has extended through 2015 its Prime Fitness contract with Health Care Service Corp., a move continuing that wellness program for HCSC's plan-eligible employees.
“For more than 75 years, HCSC has continually demonstrated their commitment to the health and well-being of their members. The long-term extension of the HCSC partnership with Healthways offering Prime Fitness further supports this member commitment,” Leedle said in a separate statement linked here.
