Tennessee Business Roundtable names executive director

Former BellSouth exec to focus on public policy issues facing state's business community

The Tennessee Business Roundtable has named announce Charles “Charlie” Howorth its executive director.

Howorth will help continue the TBR’s work addressing key public policy issues facing the business community including private property rights, judicial selection, education, workers' compensation and health care.

Howorth once worked at BellSouth, first acting as general counsel before being named regulatory vice president. He has served on the board of directors of numerous organizations, including the Nashville Symphony, United Way and the Center for Nonprofit Management. Most recently he worked as a consultant in the telecommunications field.

Howorth has a B.A. degree in history from Milsaps College, as well as a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi.

“Charlie has a proven track record as a successful senior executive who has extensive experience working with policy makers on significant public policy issues,” Gregg Morton, TBR president, said in a release. “I am excited to have someone of Charlie's caliber leading the Tennessee Business Roundtable.”

The Tennessee Business Roundtable comprises senior-level business leaders seeking to collaborate with state government and business organizations to develop and implement policy supporting business and economic growth.
