Waddey & Patterson adds associate

Patent attorney has D.C. background

Patent attorney Nate Bailey has joined Waddey & Patterson, P.C., as an associate.

Bailey, like all Waddey & Patterson attorneys, is a registered patent attorney. His practice areas with the firm will include all aspects of patent and other intellectual property litigation, including practice before both the U.S. Trademark Board and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Previously, Bailey (pictured) worked as a patent attorney in the United States Patent & Trademark Office, Patent Trial and Appeal Board. There, he briefed administrative patent judges in the trial division on legal and technological issues and drafted opinions for ex parte appeals in numerous technological areas. Prior to his time at USPTO, Bailey worked for a patent boutique firm in the Washington D.C. area.

“[Bailey’s] extensive patent knowledge in the fields of chemical, electrical and computer engineering will serve our clients well,” Ed Lanquist, Waddey & Patterson president and managing shareholder, said in release.  “His experience in the United States Patent and Trademark Office is an invaluable asset to Waddey & Patterson. With the America Invents Act, there will be more post grant actions filed with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.  Nate’s experience and knowledge with the Board will benefit our clients.”

Bailey obtained both a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and a Master of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from Southern Illinois University. He completed his undergraduate work in physics, chemistry and philosophy at East Tennessee State University.

Bailey’s writing has appeared in, among others, Today’s Engineer, Journal of Generic Medicines, Food and Drug Law Journal, and Engineering Management Review. He is past vice-chair of the Intellectual Property Committee for the Institute for Electronic and Electrical Engineers and holds memberships to the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association.
