Keel to chair MTSU recording industry department

Music business pro recently returned to alma mater after Universal Music Group stint

Beverly Keel, a veteran music journalist and former recording industry executive, has been named chair of the Middle Tennessee State University Department of Recording Industry, effective Aug. 1.

Professor Bill Crabtree will continue serving as interim chair of the department until then.

Keel (pictured) recently returned to the university’s College of Mass Communication after taking a leave of absence to serve as senior vice president of media and artist relations for Universal Music Group Nashville. She has taught at MTSU and written for multiple publications over the years.

Keel earned her bachelor’s degree from MTSU and her master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with the department’s talented and experienced faculty and staff, who are dedicated to preparing students for the changing music industry environment,” Keel said in a release.
