Davidson County's unemployment rate for August was 7.4 percent, down from the 8.6 rate for August 2011, according to statistics the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development released today.
Of the state's four largest cities, Knox County had the lowest August jobless rate (6.7 percent), unchanged from the July rate. Davidson County's 7.4 percent also was unchanged from the previous month. Hamilton County was 7.7 percent, down from 8.4 percent in July, while Shelby County was 9 percent, down from 9.7 percent the previous month.
