Urban Flats to be reinvented as Music City Flats

Owner Henry Hillenmeyer will update Gulch restaurant's menu, decor

Urban Flats Flatbread & Wine Company will soon close temporarily, undergo a two-week long renovation and reopen with a new menu and updated decor as Music City Flats, the Gulch restaurant's owner announed today.

Urban Flats has operated from a ground-level retail space in Icon since 2009.

The restaurant will no longer be connected to the Florida-based Urban Flats chain but will remain under the ownership of Henry Hillenmeyer, the former chairman and CEO of the Cooker Restaurant Corp. and a veteran Nashville-based restauranteur. Ben Lowe will continue as director of operations and marketing.

“We decided to become a local, Nashville restaurant,” Hillenmeyer said in a release. “We are the only Urban Flats outside of Florida, and my partners and I feel we can better serve our Nashville guests by upgrading the concept and moving forward as an independent restaurant.”

Atlanta-based chef Dan Latham will provide assistance with the new menu. Latham, after graduating from the French Culinary Institute in 1998, went to work for celebrity chef Mario Batali. He now runs restaurant consulting firm LQC Ventures Inc.
