Event planners buy Grand Avenue unit

Destination Nashville has blue-chip client list

Event planning firm Destination Nashville has acquired a division of the Grand Avenue transportation company, putting the two companies in a position to jointly market their services to Music City’s growing hospitality scene.

Terms of the acquisition for Grand Avenue Global Events were not disclosed. One of the venture's five employees will move over to Destination Nashville, the others have been given severance packages. Carl Haley, president and CEO of Grand Avenue, said the deal will let each company focus on its specialty while working “in tandem on behalf of our clients.”

“All of us at Grand Avenue are excited to build upon our mutual strengths, particularly at this important juncture for the hospitality industry in Nashville,” Haley said.

Destination Nashville President and CEO Rhonda Marko founded her firm in 1994 and has worked with a lot of big names in town and beyond, including Gaylord Entertainment, Cracker Barrel and Dollar General.

“This is a momentous day for me and my team, as we simultaneously grow our footprint and revolutionize the level of service available in this region,” Marko said.  “We look forward to the opportunities for both of our companies to flourish in the months and years ahead, as we work together to serve Music City.”
