Mattress maker names marketing chief

Employee-owned manufacturer also adds operations, sales execs

North Nashville-based mattress maker Southerland has promoted Scott Miller to the new position of chief marketing officer from executive vice president of sales.

Miller (left) joined Southerland, which has its roots in southern Indiana in 1893, almost two years ago from fellow bedding maker Natura. He will now oversee the company’s product development, merchandizing, marketing and brand management.

Southerland also has hired a number of other key executives:

• Leo Echeverria will serve as vice president of manufacturing. Echeverria most recently ran his own consulting firm and also has worked at Serta, King Koil and Southern Dreams.

• Dan Thigpen has come aboard as vice president of sales for the Western United States. He has in the past held sales management positions at Comfort Solutions and Kingsdown.

• Dave Delaney has joined Southerland in the new position of national sales coordinator. He will be based in Nashville and manage the support for field sales reps. Delaney has worked in sales at Spring Air, Corsicana and Therapedic.

In a related move, Tim Tyler is adding to his responsibilities as vice president of sales to include the company’s central division as well as the Eastern U.S.

“Our executive team has an excellent balance of customer focus, industry experience, product and market knowledge and operational skills,” said CEO and COO Steve Russo. “We have now completed staffing the executive team roles needed for our business to achieve its long-term goals; we are very well positioned to execute our business model and create meaningful customer value.”

Southerland, which has been owned by an ESOP since 2010, is based off Brick Church Pike and also has plants and warehouses in Oklahoma City and Phoenix.
