Keeping the lights on

Miller & Martin down to three

The Chattanooga-based law firm of Miller & Martin still has a presence in Nashville, but only barely.

As of publication of this article, the firm that at the beginning of the year housed more than 40 attorneys in its One Nashville Place offices is down to three, and only one is a partner.

The remaining attorneys are Shomari Dailey, a former associate now listed as “of counsel,” associate Sean Kirk and partner Alston Hamilton. Hamilton evidently has strong ties to the Chattanooga area; he lists on his resume that he is a member of the alumni association of the McCallie School, a prominent boys prep school in the River City.

Starting with a trickle at the beginning of the year and in the wake of a leadership change at the firm, Miller & Martin last month saw its presence in Nashville decimated by departures. The biggest exodus occurred when 37 attorneys left en masse to firmly establish the local office of the Mississippi-based firm Butler Snow. Several more have followed them since.

Asked about the future of Miller & Martin in Nashville, spokesman Frederick Strobel said, “Miller & Martin remains committed to Nashville and having a presence in the Nashville legal community.”
