As widely expected, Nashville sports talk mainstay George Plaster will return to the airwaves later this month.
An official announcement will be made later on Wednesday.
Plaster will join WPRT 102.5 The Game July 23 after a 10-month hiatus after his departure from sports-talk giant WGFX 104.5 The Zone after the Cumulus-Citadel merger last year.
Plaster will move into the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. drive-time spot on The Game, hosting a show called "Sports Night" — the same name as his original show on WWTN. The Cromwell Group, owners of WPRT, will syndicate the show across a network of Middle Tennessee stations.
With Plaster's return will come line-up changes at The Game, which has yet to offer much ratings competition to The Zone. In the most recent Arbitron ratings, The Zone finished fifth in the Nashville market; The Game was 18th.
Today's official announcement will hint that Cromwell is "getting the band back together" on Sports Night.
This is perhaps an indication that Plaster will be joined in the revived Sports Night not only by long-time sidekick Willy Daunic — who has hosted 102.5's afternoon drive show The Sports Revolution since he left 104.5 in October — but also by Darren McFarland. McFarland, currently one of a trio of hosts of WPRT's morning show, was on the original Sports Night on WWTN.
