Ingram Content promotes exec to COO

Former chief information officer came from Bass Pro Shops in '09

Less than two weeks after officially taking over the reins at Ingram Content Group, John Ingram has promoted the company's technology boss to be his top lieutenant and the company's first chief operating officer.

The appointment of Shawn Morin is effective immediately and will have him run Ingram Content's commercial activities, systems and operations to work with publishers educators, libraries and retailers around the world. In that role, he will handle much of the work previously overseen by Skip Prichard, who announced three weeks ago he was leaving the family-owned company.

Morin came to Ingram Content from Bass Pro Shops in 2009 as chief information officer and will report to Ingram, who also will directly oversee ingram Content's finance, legal and human resources teams.

"As much as we’re a distribution business, we’re also a technology business," said Ingram, adding that Morin "has been our aggressive leader in the growth of VitalSource, which is the most utilized e-textbook platform in education today. Shawn is well prepared to help me and our leadership team execute the vision of where Ingram Content Group is heading in the next period."

VitalSource has more than 2.2 million users — up from 1.6 million a year ago — on 6,000 campuses in 180 countries and recently expanded onto the Android platform.
