Former American General CEO joins Consumers Insurance board

Now leading division of Texas company, Kelley to advise Murfreesboro carrier

The board of Murfreesboro-based Consumers Insurance USA has added Joe Kelley, the former chairman and CEO of American General Life & Accident Insurance, to its ranks.

Kelley, who retired as leader of American General in September 2001 after joining the company as its marketing chief seven years prior, becomes the 10th board member at Consumers, which was launched in 1995 and now offers various property and casualty policies in seven states. Kelley was this past January named president of Trilogy Insurance & Financial Services, a division of Austin-based software company Trilogy Inc.

“We are very pleased to welcome Joe to the Board,” said Consumers Chairman Amanda Farnsworth. “His extensive insurance and business experience will be a valuable asset as the company continues to grow.”

Kelley began his career as an insurance agent in 1970 with Prudential. During his stint with Prudential, he rose to senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
