Chem-Dry parent picks Nashville for regional HQ

Harris Research plans move to Gulch building

Harris Research, which franchises Chem-Dry carpet cleaners and N-Hance wood renewal services, has tapped Nashville for a regional headquarters.

The company will invest $1 million in a new office at the Braid Building — home to Bohan Advertising and the Paramore interactive agency — on Demonbreun Street near The Gulch. According to a release, Harris — which has more than 4,000 franchisees — will bring 30 jobs to its 8,500 square-foot, third-floor office.

"Nashville proved to be a great fit for our brands in choosing our new regional headquarters location," said Dan Tarantin, Harris' president and CEO. "The area offers a deep pool of talent to build departments that are crucial to our company’s success. This location will also allow us to have a greater presence on the Eastern half of the U.S. and offer franchisee training in Nashville."

Tarantin has a number of connections to Nashville: A former JPMorgan investment banker, he was CEO of Direct General for about three years until the fall of 2010 and before that ran FISI-Madison, which was renamed Progeny Marketing Innovations under his watch. He joined Harris Research last fall when the private-equity arm of Robert W. Baird led a buyout of the Utah-based company from Home Depot.
