BreatheAmerica raises $5M more
Airway disease treatment company BreatheAmerica has raised $5 million to give its growth plans another boost.
The funding is an addendum to the $22M Series B round the company got in the summer of 2011. And like that financial shot in the arm, this infusion was led by venture capital firm Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, which is based in Palo Alto and also has offices in Houston, New York and London.
CEO Joe Hutts, who launched BreatheAmerica five years ago and has previously run PhyCor and Surgis, said the money will help his team enter several more markets around the country. BreatheAmerica, he said, is in various stages of construction and planning for eight facilities that will treat patients with allergies, asthma and sinus conditions. The company also runs centers in Albuquerque, El Paso and Tulsa, and Hutts said the new facilities should all be up and running in about a year.
