Regions Financial Corp. announced late Wednesday it will leave its namesake building and relocate to One Nashville Place, a move that includes the local addition of its Mid-America headquarters.

The move to occupy 100,000 square feet at Fourth Avenue and Commerce Street will give Regions a footprint less than half the size of its current one at Third Avenue and Deaderick Street. It comes on the heels of U.S. Bank's decision to move its Tennessee HQ to the AT&T Building and the planned relocation of law firm Butler Snow — which is subleasing two floors from Miller & Martin — to the Pinnacle at Symphony Place.

Regions' placing of its Mid-America HQ here makes Nashville one of the bank’s three strategic hubs. Regions' logo will top the building, taking over from U.S. Bank.

“This move, along with the establishment of Nashville as Mid-America headquarters, reinforces Regions Bank’s commitment to long-term growth in Middle Tennessee,” said Middle Tennessee Area President Jim Schmitz. “Regions is deeply and historically invested in this area, which is why we have chosen this prime location in the heart of downtown Nashville to execute both local and multi-state operations.”

Both local and regional headquarters operations will move to One Nashville Place in renovated space by mid-year 2013, according to Schmitz.

Schmitz will continue to lead the bank’s Middle Tennessee operations, but he will be joined at One Nashville Place by Mid-America Regional President Ronnie Smith, who has relocated here from Jackson, Miss., to oversee the largest of the bank’s three multi-state regions.

Regions is Middle Tennessee's largest holder of deposits. In the year ended June 30, it grew its local base to more than $7 billion and lifted its market share to 18.1 percent, its highest level in four years.
