Prichard’s Distillery — a Middle Tennessee maker of liqueur, rum and whisky — will begin production in the spring at Fontanel.
The move is the latest in the area's burgeoning craft spirits industry (read more here). Jeana Schwartz, office manager for Kelso-based Prichard’s, said the company will operate a full-scale distillery on the Joelton-area Fontanel site. However, she added officials with Prichard’s, which was founded in 1822, are still considering various options for that production.
Revived 15 years ago by Phil Prichard, the company produces 17 different liqueurs, rums and whiskeys and distributes to 48 states and eight European countries.
“We’re not sure if it will be multiple products or only one product,” Schwartz said of the Fontanel effort. She said Prichard’s hopes to begin on-site production in May.
Schwartz said Prichard’s will have a distiller and at least one retailer on the Fontanel site.
“Fontanel has been gracious enough to say they will provide help if we need it,” she said.
Schwartz declined to disclose a cost to get the production facility operational.
Fontanel is home to the Fontanel Mansion, an amphitheater and a restaurant, among other components.
