State jobless rate drops to 8.2%

October 2011 mark was 8.9%

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for October was 8.2 percent, down from both the September revised rate of 8.3 percent and the 8.9 percent mark in October 2011, Karla Davis, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, announced today.

The unemployment rate is the lowest the state has seen since June.

By comparison, the national unemployment rate for October 2012 was 7.9 percent, 0.1 percentage point higher than the September rate. During the past 12 months, the national rate declined from 8.9 percent to 7.9 percent.
