Regions buys local employee benefits business

Founder, former Northwestern Mutual advisor now leading biz dev for bank group

Regions Bank has purchased an insurance/employee benefits firm founded in early 2010 by a former Northwestern Mutual financial advisor.

Officials at Regions, the region’s market leader in deposits, said James Story and Story Capital Group bring with them “an impressive roster of business clients.” In his new role as employee benefits consultant, Story will lead area business development efforts for Regions’ benefits group and look to connect traditional bank customers with health, life and disability insurance products.

“We are thrilled to welcome James to our Insurance Group, as he is a noted industry leader and entrepreneur,” said Charles Porter, CEO of Regions Insurance. “James will be an invaluable resource to help customers implement sound insurance and investment strategies.”

Story Capital Group was founded in January 2010, when Story was with Northwestern Mutual. Before that, he was a commercial loan analyst at Southeast Financial Federal Credit Union and an associate at Washington, D.C., government relations firm Barbour Griffith and Rodgers. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi’s School of Business and serves on the boards of Phoenix Club of Nashville and Leadership Brentwood as well as Cumberland University’s Business Advisory Board.
