McKay buys in Bellevue

Used bookstore adds location as first-run stores close

Closure news at Borders and Davis-Kidd were downers for Nashville bibliophiles, but a used book giant may buck those spirits with a move into Bellevue.

McKay Used Books — which sells DVDs and video games, too — finalized a purchase of three tracts of land at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Interstate 40 in Bellevue. The buy totaled $1.5 million and the filing was accompanied by a $3.5 million mortgage.

McKay has been working to add the location — its second; the first is in the former Service Merchandise at White Bridge Road and Charlotte Pike - for several months, having pulled a building permit in September.

The news, coincidentally, comes the same day The Container Store pulled a permit to occupy the former Davis-Kidd location at the Mall at Green Hills.
