New managing attorney at Legal Aid

Housing, family law specialist to lead nonprofit's Nashville office

The Legal Aid Society has named DarKenya Waller managing attorney for its Nashville office.

Waller replaces Lucinda Smith as the head of the nonprofit firm's local office, which has about 10 lawyers. She joined the Legal Aid Society in 2008 and has worked primarily in housing and family law in Williamson County.

"DarKenya has demonstrated both the legal skills and the passion for our work that makes her an excellent choice to administer the firm's Nashville office," said Gary Housepian, executive director of the Legal Aid Society.

Waller, who received her J.D. from the University of Mississippi Law School, also holds an MBA from Belhaven College. Before joining Legal Aid, she spent nine years in Mississippi in private practice and working with family law firm Chinn & Associates.

The Legal Aid Society gives free civil legal aid to people who have nowhere else to turn. It serves 48 counties from eight offices.
