Komen taps Vanderbilt cancer center leaders
Two Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center researchers have been named to a new scientific advisory panel for breast cancer foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Jennifer Pietenpol, director of the center, and Carlos Arteaga, professor of medicine and cancer biology and leader of the VICC breast cancer program, have joined the 60-person Scientific Advisory Council. The expert panel — selected based on their involvement in projects working to discover and deliver cures for breast cancer — will provide scientific peer review for the breast cancer grants and programs that Komen funds and offer guidance to Komen leadership on breast cancer education and public policy.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the largest source of breast cancer research funding outside the U.S. government, having invested nearly $1.5 billion in research and community health programs.
