Williamson County home builder files for bankruptcy
Another Middle Tennessee luxury home builder is headed for liquidation.
According to court documents, Dan Stern Homes is bankrupt. The builder, which specializes in high-end custom homes, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation Monday. Dan Stern Jr. and his wife, Dana, filed for personal bankruptcy as well.
Dan Stern Homes shows a $3.7 million debt load with $191,000 in assets, all in real estate. The Bank of Nashville is far and away the company's biggest creditor, putting claims on three pieces of real estate.
The first property claimed by the bank is a $2.2 million home in Brentwood's fashionable Windstone development. The other two are lots in the Olde Towne development, slated to be a mega-mansion subdivision in rural Williamson County. Those lots are valued at $660,000.
Dan Stern has been in the construction industry for more than two decades and generally worked on only a handful of houses at one time. The Sterns' personal bankruptcy claim shows a significant amount of overlap, with the couple listed as co-debtor for all of the corporate liabilities.
