Tanner endorses Hillary

West Tennessee Congressman's move comes after Clinton's Pennsylvania victory

Chalk up a new Tennessee superdelegate for Hillary Clinton.

West Tennessee Congressman John Tanner has announced today that he is supporting the New York Senator in her bid for President of the United States. Last night, Clinton carried Pennsylvania's Democratic primary in what was a must-win situation for her campaign.

In a statement released by the Clinton camp, Tanner said, "In my opinion, the best person to lead this critical effort is Hillary Clinton. Hillary is a smart, pragmatic leader who understands the grave situation our country faces, with a $9 trillion debt, much of which is borrowed from foreign countries. Now, more than ever, our nation needs a leader like Sen. Clinton who can work with others to return to fiscal sanity."

Tanner's endorsement puts him at odds with Nashville Congressman Jim Cooper and Memphis Congressman Steve Cohen, both supporters of Sen. Barack Obama.
