Democratic Whitehouse coming to Nashville

Senate-focused Belle Meade fund-raiser on tap for Democrats

The Democratic Whitehouse is coming to Nashville this weekend to raise money for his Democratic colleagues.

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) and Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico), along with Nashville's Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper, will be headlining a Belle Meade event Saturday night to raise money for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. (And no, Sheldon is not related to the author of this article, unless somebody is really bored and wants to trace family lineage back to some hovel in Yorkshire.)

Money that the DSCC raise at this event is not guaranteed to come back to Tennessee's Senate race, where Democrats Bob Tuke and Mike Padgett are hoping to knock off incumbent Republican Lamar Alexander. The cash will be used by the DSCC to assist Democratic Senate candidates in targeted states, a list Tennessee has yet to make.

Organizers of the event tell NashvillePost.com that they are hoping to raise in excess of $150,000.
