Vanderbilt building gets a facelift, airport travelers get more valet, townhouses continue to go up and Greek cuisine hits East Nashville

Airport lots get lots of new spaces

Thomas & Associates has been contracted to add parking space to airport lots, making room for 1,245 valet parking spots and adding auto service and office structures. The job is worth more than $120,000 to the La Vergne company.

A very Vandy makeover

Orion Building Corp. has pulled a $1.2 million permit to renovate Calhoun Hall in the heart of the Vanderbilt campus. Vanderbilt has contracted several jobs in the past few weeks in preparation for the busy summer construction season, adding space to its Loews offices, expanding on West End and renovating hospital research space.

Long-awaited restaurant to go forward

There are plans to renovate Niko's, a bar on Porter Road in East Nashville that adjoins to an empty space, and convert it into a Greek restaurant to be named Zavos. Mother-daughter team Elaine Rivas and Maria Calderon own several buildings in the area and saw a 2007 attempt to get the restaurant project of the ground fall through. The renovation will cost $4,500.

What housing crisis?

Ole South Properties, Inc. took out permits to construct eight more townhouses in the Old Hickory Commons subdivision on Sprucedale Drive. All told, the permits are worth more than $800,000.
