Councilman and CSX bicker over painting of train bridge
District 12 Councilman Jim Gotto’s displeasure with the aesthetic condition of the CSX railroad bridge across the Cumberland River north of James Robertson Parkway has now grown into a bit of a tiff.
After Gotto filed a memorializing resolution requesting CSX to paint the bridge, it was passed unanimously by Metro Council last month.
However, the railroad company responded with a letter stating its budget allowed for bridge maintenance, structural work primarily, and very little in the way of aesthetics like painting. CSX suggested in the letter that Metro consider chipping in its own funds to pay for painting the bridge.
That letter did not sit well with Gotto, who sent out a press release today blasting the company for flatly refusing to address the issue.
“I am appalled by the arrogance of CSX and I renew my call for them to be good citizens and assume responsibility for the maintenance of their property,” Gotto’s letter read.
