Dean pushes for biking, walking options
In an effort to make Nashville more “walkable and bikeable,” Mayor Karl Dean on Thursday announced the formation of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
The announcement, which coincided with the annual Walk Bike Nashville annual meeting, said the purpose of the committee is to further Nashville’s efforts to become a more walkable and bikeable city.
“Walking and bicycling are healthy and environmentally-friendly forms of transportation that need to be easier to do in our city,” Dean said in a statement. “It is my goal that at the end of my term as mayor, Nashville will have been transformed into one of the great walkable and bikeable cities in our country.”
“I look forward to working with this advisory committee to further the relationship between government and our community advocates in this area, and to promote walking and bicycling in Nashville.”
The formation of such a committee is recommended by the recently updated strategic plan for sidewalks and bikeways by Public Works.
