Former deputy mayor to work for McCain

Former Metro Deputy Mayor Bill Phillips is heading to Nevada to work on the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain.

Phillips, who was last in the news when his name was attached to the city manager opening in Oak Hill, will be based in Reno. There, former Mayor Bill Purcell’s top adviser will be responsible for early voting and election-day operations.

Phillips has deep Republican ties. He was chief of staff for former Nevada Gov. Bob List. He has also served as the chief of staff for the Republican National Committee and the assistant campaign manager during the 1992 Bush-Quayle re-election bid.
