Roy Vaughn, co-founder of Nashville's Katcher Vaughn & Bailey Communications, has been named director of communications for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
In his new position, Vaughn will handle public affairs, media relations, government and internal communications for the Chattanooga-based insurer. He will initially split his time between Nashville and headquarters, but he plans to relocate to Chattanooga, his hometown, next summer.
Vaughn co-founded KVB with Aileen Katcher and Greg Bailey in 1996. Previously, he had been president of Atkinson Public Relations and, before that, had worked with a number of other Nashville agencies. He left KVB in mid-September.
Katcher Vaughn & Bailey has represented BlueCross BlueShield for nine years and will continue to do so, according to a statement from Bailey. "While Roy’s creativity and expertise will be missed," Bailey said, "his legacy will continue as the firm name will remain Katcher Vaughn & Bailey Public Relations."
Annual rankings published by O'Dwyer's Public Relations News, which are based on information submitted by the companies themselves, showed KVB with annual net fee income of $1.62 million in 2006, down 16 percent from the prior year. The firm ranked third in Tennessee among those taking part in the poll, behind the Nashville-based firms McNeely Pigott & Fox and Dye, Van Mol & Lawrence.
