Familiar names prevail in Davidson County election results

Incumbents and former holders of other offices prominent among poll winners

With election results in, voters have returned incumbents to office and opted to give a Metro Council member a seat on the bench.

Davidson County voters returned Judges Gloria Dumas, Leon Ruben, Carol Soloman, Public Defender Ross Alderman, Criminal Court Clerk David Torrence, and Juvenile Court Clerk Vic Lineweaver to office.

In other races:

Metro Councilwoman Amanda McClendon will replace retiring Judge Marietta Shipley in Division II of Circuit Court after holding off former Judge Matt Sweeney.

Former Metro Councilman John Arriola will succeed Bill Covington as Davidson County Clerk.

In one of the most evenly divided races of the night, Angie Blackshear Dalton held off three other opponents to fill a seat on the General Sessions Court.

In another General Sessions race, Dianne Turner was able to hold off Jack Brown's attempt to fill the judicial seat being vacated by his father, Judge John P. Brown Jr.
