NRA endorses Bredesen

Gun enthusiasts endorsed GOP opponent four years ago

The National Rifle Association announced today that it is endorsing Gov. Phil Bredesen in this year's election, reversing course from their endorsement of his opponent four years ago.

In 2002, the NRA endorsed then-Republican candidate for Governor Van Hilleary.

Current gubernatorial candidate and Bredesen rival, State Sen. Jim Bryson (R-Franklin), has come under fire in the past 24 hours for the lack of having a hunting and fishing license in Tennessee or his native Arkansas.

Bryson claimed at a debate earlier this week that he was an "avid hunter and fisherman."
