LifePoint Hospitals has appointed Barbara Olson senior patient safety officer.

Most recently, Olson served HCA’s clinical services group as director of patient safety. She holds a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from Emory University and a master’s of science degree from Regis University.

Belcourt restaurant changes focus from small plates to stuffed burgers

Two years ago, Belcourt Taps and Tapas opened in a renovated bungalow at 2117 Belcourt Ave. in Hillsboro Village, with a menu of beer-friendly small plates and live music of the mostly acoustic variety.

Recently, the restaurant’s owners, Rose Melillo and Chris Lynch, decided it was time to beef up the concept with a new specialty: stuffed burgers. They have teamed with two new partners, nightclub veteran Terry Hudson and avid cook and branding expert Shaun Bertrand, who relaunched the joint last week as simply Taps.

As the recession shows signs of waning, Nashville-area small- to medium-sized businesses are finding more ways to secure loans and refinance debt — and they are often doing so through financial institutions other than conventional banks.

Indeed, community banks, private equity firms and merchant banks (which provide capital to companies in the form of share ownership instead of loans) are increasingly providing assistance to businesses.

Regions Center improvements

Harvest Construction has two permits for the Regions Center. The first, for $100,000, goes to rehab the 11th floor, a 17,170-square-foot space for law firm Gideon Cooper & Essary. The second — $52,000 — will rehab the 11th floor restrooms.

Regional law firm Wyatt Tarrant & Combs has added two attorneys to its Nashville office.

Marcia Topiwala (pictured at far left) joins the local Wyatt office having previously worked for the Katten Muchin Rosenman law firm in New York City. She was a member of that firm’s financial services team and concentrates on corporate and business law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate and commercial lending. She received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and her law degree from Fordham University.
