HCA exec to teach at Nashville School of Law

Nashville School of Law announced today that Eileen Schoen Githens, vice president and chief operations council for HCA, will join the NSL faculty as a health law instructor.

Githens has served at HCA since 1996, advising 20 hospitals on legal matters and running hospital compliance programs. Prior to joining HCA, she worked in private practice where she developed and negotiated managed care and hospital service agreements and defended health care fraud cases. She additionally served at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, most recently as deputy secretary for medical assistance.

"Eileen is a talented attorney who will offer our students comprehensive knowledge as she has served at a state agency, in private practice and now at the nation's leading provider of health care services," Joe C. Loser, NSL dean, said in a release.

Githens earned her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and her law degree from University of South Carolina Law School.

Nashville School of Law adds Callahan to faculty

Nashville School of Law has added local attorney and NSL alumnus David Callahan to its faculty.

Callahan (pictured) is teaching third- and fourth-year students on probate and estate planning. As founding member and attorney at Callahan Witherington, he focuses his practice on probate, trusts and estate planning, and litigation services for clients in Middle Tennessee and the Southeast. Previously, he was an associate at Adams and Reese, where worked alongside Anne Russell, formerly an NSL wills/estate planning instructor.

“Mr. Callahan, who served as an adjunct professor on Wills for many years, will continue to be an energizing and insightful presence in our classrooms,” Dean Joe C. Loser said in a release. “In addition to his professional acumen, he demonstrates for NSL students a commitment to community service that is a cornerstone of our educational mission. We are thrilled to have him on our faculty.”

Callahan earned his law degree from Nashville School of Law, where he was honored with the Moot Court Award. He is also a member of NSL’s Cooper’s Inn Honor Society. Callahan holds a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Alabama, from which he earlier graduated cum laude upon completion of his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics.
