Herbert Gabhart, who led Belmont for more than two decades and has been a chancellor of the university since 1983, died this morning.
When he arrived at Belmont College in 1959, the school’s enrollment was 360 students. When he retired as president in 1982, Belmont’s student population had grown by 500 percent to more than 2,000. He oversaw a budget increase from $480,000 to $8 million, and the campus also saw physical expansion with the addition of nine new buildings, including the Massey Performing Arts Center, Wheeler Humanities building, Hitch Science building, the library, and more. Belmont also expanded academically by adding many majors and degrees, including music, nursing, business and more.

The Buntin Group recently announced several new staff additions, including Theresa Menz, who joins the Nashville advertising and marketing agency as senior art director. Menz most recently served as creative director for Irvine, Ca.-based Young & Rubicam. Her 11 years of art direction and design experience include work for brands such as Land Rover, Kraft, Kellogg's and Coca-Cola. Other new hires include Beth Johnson as account supervisor, David Kelleher as account supervisor for Buntin Out-of-Home Media, and Don Bailey as art director.

Music Row passes on word that Marc Driskill has rejoined ASCAP to be its Nashville general manager, a new position at the performing-rights organization. Driskill had spent almost eight years at ASCAP before serving as COO of two of Music Row impresario Craig Wiseman's companies.

Leigh Walton, a 25-year Bass Berry & Sims partner and co-chair of its health care practice, has been named a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The nonprofit ABF, which bills itself as "the nation's leading research institute for the empirical study of law," hosts its fellowships in residence at its offices in Chicago.

Worthy Media, the multimedia Christian content business launched earlier this year, has hired Rob Birkhead as vice president of creative. Birkhead is a former senior VP of marketing at Thomas Nelson and a senior exec at Integrity Publishers, also a former stop of Worthy colleagues Byron Williamson and David Howell.
