ESPN announces broadcast plans for SEC/Big 12 Challenge

Tip-off times and broadcast plans for the 2014 SEC/Big 12 were announced Tuesday – and it is clear that Vanderbilt is not considered a star attraction.

The Commodores’ game against Baylor on Dec. 4 will tip at 6 p.m. (CST) and will air on ESPNU. At the same time LSU and West Virginia will play on ESPN. Two other games follow that night.

SEC/Big 12 Challenge provides Vanderbilt hoops another uncommon opponent

Say this for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. It creates matchups that Vanderbilt would not or could not get on its own.

The Commodores will host Baylor on Dec. 4 in one of the 10 games that comprise the inter-conference men's basketball event, which will be contested for the second season.

Vanderbilt and Baylor last played in 1985-86. They have met nine times in all, and Vanderbilt has won eight.

A year ago, the Commodores lost to Texas as part of the inaugural SEC/Big 12 Challenge. It was the first meeting between those schools since 1988-89.

“The ability to showcase SEC basketball in this kind of inter-conference competition makes this a unique and exciting event for our coaches, student-athletes and fans,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said in a release to announce this year’s slate of games.
