UT's quarterback competition likely to be settled this week

Butch Jones expects to name a starting quarterback before the end of this week.

That was the news out of the University of Tennessee’s Monday morning practice.

From the Knoxville News Sentinel:

“We are getting closer to naming a starting quarterback," Jones said after the Vols finished the first of two Monday practices at Haslam Field.

“I'm going to go back and watch the film this morning, a little bit (more) tonight," Jones said. "But I expect, if things go the way they have been going, we will name a starting quarterback at some point this week. But again, I'm not going to set any time frames. If it happens, it happens. There are no deadlines. We have time. But again, I think we are getting closer to a decision in regard to our quarterback position."

Senior Justin Worley, redshirt sophomore Nathan Peterman and sophomore Joshua Dobbs have been competing for the job. Jones praised Worley and Peterman after UT's closed scrimmage last Saturday.
