Goals at a premium in Preds first scrimmage

As ever, the Predators are looking for scoring heading into the season, but there weren't many goals on offer at Friday afternoon's scrimmage at Centennial.

Both 30 minute, running-clock scrimmages ended 1-0.

The lone goal in the first game would have gone to video review for official scoring had it been an official game. A line of true grinders — Paul Gaustad, Rich Clune and new acquisition Matt Hendricks — were all in a knot around the net when the puck got behind Marek Mazenec.

The goal in the second game was quite a bit prettier. Newly-acquired Eric Nystrom slipped a dandy pass to first-round draft pick Seth Jones, who made a nifty dish of his own to goal-scorer Mike Fisher.

Other observations:

** Rich Clune was in full Rich Clune mode. He was fairly aggressive for a scrimmage, throwing the body around. He even goaded Mathieu Tousignant into dropping his gloves at one point. As the youngster raised his fists to fight, Clune skated away. In one of the post-game shootouts, Clune kept his "100 percent no lie" shootout percentage alive, beating the goalie through his legs. Also impressive in the shootout — Filip Forsberg and recent acquisition Matt Hendricks, who has some game.

**Pekka Rinne played the entire first half of the scrimmage and kept a clean sheet. It will be interesting to see how his workload progresses coming off the hip surgery.

**Jones played a little on the left with Kevin Klein. And then he and Klein switched sides. Jones also played a bit with fellow rookie Kayne Doetzel.
