Once again, Vanderbilt is unwilling to wait for the weekend to start a football season. The conference schedule will, however, be delayed.
The Commodores will open the 2014 season on a Thursday (Aug. 28) at home against Temple, and the conference opener will be 10 days later, Sept. 6, against Ole Miss at Vanderbilt Stadium.
The first four games, and eight of 12 on the schedule will be at home capped by an appearance by in-state rival Tennessee.
“This might have been the most difficult schedule for the SEC to complete since the beginning of the league,” director of athletics David Williams said in a statement. “There were many obstacles to overcome with Missouri and Texas A&M still being worked into the rotation and the launch next August of the SEC Network. But we are very pleased with our schedule. The team and our fans will like opening the season with four games at home and the open dates come at opportune times. It will be nice to end the regular season with Tennessee the way it traditionally has always been.”
