Vanderbilt basketball named 2015 Maui Invitational field

Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball team was in one tropical location Monday when it learned that another such destination is in its not-too-distant future.

VU was named to the eight-team field for the 2015 EA Sports Maui Invitational (Nov. 23-25, 2015). Others scheduled to participate were Chaminade, Indiana, Kansas, St. John's, UCLA, UNLV, and Wake Forest.

“The 2015 Tournament promises to be very special,” tournament chairman Dave Odom said in a release. “Kansas, St. John’s, UCLA and Indiana are four of the most storied programs in the history of college basketball. UNLV, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest are among the most successful programs in the past two decades. To have these teams join Chaminade in Maui will make for a spectacular week of basketball.”

The Commodores will participate in the event for the fifth time overall, the first since 2009. They were 2-1 in their last appearance, including a victory over Arizona, which improved their overall Maui Invitational record to 8-4.

Vanderbilt concludes play Monday in the 2013 ezybonds Paradise Jam (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) with a 4 p.m. game against Loyola Marymount.

The Commodores (3-2) opened the current tournament with a 67-60 loss to Providence on Friday and then defeated Morgan State 75-66 on Saturday.
