Former council member Jamie Hollin takes some shots at Emily Evans:
What are Ms. Evans’s substantive accomplishments during her 6+ years on the Metro Council? I’ve checked and I served with her. When I use the term “accomplished,” I am using it in the sense she came up with legislation, spearheaded it through the Council and put 21 votes on the board—passing a meaningful ordinance requiring 3 readings. I make no reference to someone else’s ideas she decided to join or was compelled to sign onto (sewer easements) or getting a zoning bill passed in her Council District. The latter of these are largely left to the discretion of neighbors, district members and councilmanic courtesy (other CMs defer to the district member).
Best I am able to ascertain, her record of substantive legislative accomplishments is ZERO. Many folks in Nashville think responding to constituent complaints is the job. Much like attending a meeting of import then under consideration of the Metro Council. I am certain she performs these parts of the job in superb fashion. Yet my view is that constituent services like these are only part of the job. The job of being a member of a legislative body is getting the votes for your bills or getting the votes to keep bad bills from passing–legislating. On this front, Ms. Evans is only capable of producing votes on the machine affixed to her desk in the Chamber.
