Who's up for it?

Who wants to run in Senate District 20? EVERYBODY!

Among Democrats pondering runs are At-large Councilmen Tim Garrett, Ronnie Steine, rookie District 4 Councilman Brady Banks and former At-large Councilman David Briley, a Nashville attorney who ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Nashville in 2007.

“I’m thinking about it, and talking to my family about it,” Briley said.

Attorney Kevin Doherty is also exploring a Democratic run, according to multiple sources. The City Paper was unable to reach Doherty for comment.

On the Republican-side confirmations are fewer, but interest is expected to pick up. Steve Dickerson, a physician who lost to Democratic state Sen. Douglas Henry in 2010, has already announced his Republican candidacy for the District 20 senate seat.

Guy, I don't think that Matt

Guy,

I don't think that Matt was endorsing Dr. Dickerson.  He was reflecting that Dickerson ran two years ago against Senator Henry and did so well.  This time he has already begun raising money and building staff.  Additionally, having moderated two debates between Dickerson and his primary opponent, I can tell you that Dickerson is well informed and quick on his feet.

Besides it seems unlikely that a candidate who can look at all sides of an issue and one who actually understands the complexities of public policy will get Matt's endorsement.  Matt favors candidates who believe that ideas exist in compartments and never require balancing with other ideas.

With backhanded compliments

With backhanded compliments like that, is it any wonder you've been socially ostracized from local groups?

Matt, I think you mean one

Matt,

I think you mean one group.  Actually not even the group, just a couple of people who disagree with me on an issue of philosophy.  But thanks for proving that I am correct about the comment I am about to make.

And sometimes it helps to remember that great quotation from Marx, "I would never join a club that would have me as a member."

And that was not a backhanded compliment.  Rather I corrected a poster who misinterpreted your comment and credited you for being right, particularly given your preferece for confusing ideology with real life.  A backhanded compliment would have been to observe that I hope to live long enough to see you be correct again, something that should keep me around until brain transplants extend life to almost immortality.

Dickerson is obviously the

Dickerson is obviously the strongest candidate in the race and the most likely to succeed.

One of these days, Matt

One of these days, Matt Collins will learn that his endorsement means less than nothing.
