Don't make the veterans mad

Part of the governor's civil service reform removes the previous preferential hiring policy for veterans. But, hey, they (we?) are guaranteed an interview!

What Tennessee Governor Bill

What Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is doing away with the the state sanctioned discrimination against non-veterans --- approximately 84% of the state population and some number of these veterans may have not actually lived within the state before entering military service ... the state government should not be broadly distributing benefits, tax relief, etc. to veterans (with the exception of those with significant service connected disability) over Tennessee state residents.

It seems too often that a lot of the veterans-related legislation that originates from within the Tennessee General Assembly has been sponsored by chickenhawk elected officials who never served in the military.
