'Nashville Lifestyles' publisher to step down after 14-year run

Nashville Lifestyles Publisher and Editor Stacie Standifer announced today she is stepping down from her role as director of the glossy publication and website.

Veteran publisher Brian Barry, an original staff member of Nashville Lifestyles when it was founded in 1999, has been named the replacement.

In a release, Standifer, who led NL for almost 14 years, said she wants to explore “other entrepreneurial opportunities and lifestyle changes” unrelated to publishing and media. She will remain as editor at large for Nashville Lifestyles, will be a member of the publication’s advisory board and will continue to contribute celebrity, lifestyle and travel content on a freelance basis.

Since selling the publication group to Gannett and The Tennessean in the late 2000s, Standifer has served in a management role. She will now transition into what she called a “more creative liaison and consultant for the brand.” Standifer also will continue to write entries for her lifestyle blog Southern Sophisticate.

“After months of consideration, I recently gave notice I’ll step down from the publisher role,” Standifer said in a release. “I have taken what started as a pipe-dream and developed it into a strong, flourishing publication nearing its 14th anniversary and I’m extremely proud of how it has grown and evolved to reflect the very best of my hometown.”

Barry, who attended Belmont University, began his career began at Eagle Communications working with titles Business Nashville magazine and Nashville Life magazine throughout the 1990s, under the direction of Ted Welch. Shortly after the predecessor closed Nashville Life magazine, Standifer launched Nashville Lifestyles magazine and hired Barry.

Barry has experience in custom publishing, special interest publications and city and regional magazines. He has worked for publications and for large-scale printers, consulting with publications on distribution, revenue generation and digital strategies.

"My career has taken me all over the country but Nashville has always been my home,” Barry said.  “I love this city and I love Nashville Lifestyles magazine. It is a true full circle moment for me to come back to the magazine."
