Grading work is expected to begin by May 1 at the SoBro site on which a Hilton Garden Inn will rise, according to the hotel’s developer. Robert Schaedle, Chartwell Hospitality president, said the company has applied for a grading permit. The site — bordered by Third Avenue on the east, Korean Veterans Boulevard on the north, Almond Street on the west and Peabody Street on the south — has sat sans activity since demolition of previously existing buildings was completed a few weeks ago. In the image on the left, KVB is on the far left, with Almond Street (which is actually an alley) in the foreground and seemingly paved with bricks. The central business district, for orientation purposes, would be to the left of the image. Read more about the project here.
