Hedge fund hires marketing point man

Three-year-old local hedge fund Steel Vine has a new partner and director of marketing in Jason Beaird, who will look to bring more individual and institutional investors to the table. Beaird most recently worked for Constellation Associates and before that spent six years as Jetstream Capital's director of client services. Steel Vine, which puts money to work in commodities and stock options, was launched in 2009 by Spencer Patton, son of locally based turnaround expert Jim Patton. The fund outperformed both the S&P 500 and the Barclays Hedge Fund Index that year and in 2010 and 2011 and was tracking the S&P's performance through last summer.
