WeCar at Fifth and Church generates usage

Approximately one year into its service, the WeCar location at downtown’s Church Street and Fifth Avenue North has surpassed in usage more long-standing WeCar locations, including the spot at Commerce Street and Fourth Avenue North.

The WeCar at Fifth and Church launched in August 2011. Since then, it has generated during the same time span 22 percent more revenue and 12 percent more usage hours than the WeCar at Fourth and Commerce. Of note, the Fourth and Commerce WeCar is more established, having begun service in April 2010.

The Nashville Downtown Partnership oversees the WeCar program, which includes three sites in the central business district, a Gulch spot and sites at Belmont, Lipscomb and Vanderbilt universities.

“Part of the success of downtown carsharing is the location of the vehicle,” said Tamara Dickson, NDP vice president of economic development. “Several locations were tested the first year, and [the Fifth and Church site] has proved to be optimal because it is close to a high density of both employees and residents.”
