Quintet led by Saint Thomas Health scores 'A' in Leapfrog Group rating

Baptist Hospital, Saint Thomas Hospital and Middle Tennessee Medical Center (all three members of Saint Thomas Health), Skyline Medical Center and Vanderbilt University Hospital were each honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and large purchasers of health benefits.

The scores were calculated under the guidance of the group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medial and medication errors and infections.

“Through increased reporting and education, we’ve made tremendous strides in patient safety over the past four years,” Dr. Bill Thompson, chief quality officer for Saint Thomas Health, said in a release. “Since we began our Safe Care program, adverse events have been reduced by 80 percent in our hospitals.”
