700 Wedgewood Park slated for November completion

Developers of an apartment building slated for construction in the general Waverly-Belmont historic district are targeting a November completion date.

New Urban Village Development will construct the four-story, 30-unit apartment building — to be called 700 Wedgewood Park and located at Wedgewood Park and Ridley Boulevard — next to the company’s The Glass Factory residential building.

Peggy Krebs, a NUVD co-partner with husband Paul, said the new building’s location (it will be sited between Eighth Avenue South and Interstate 65) will allow it to act as a “gateway” of sorts. On the other side of the interstate and moving east are an industrial area, then the Rains neighborhood and the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. To the west is the 12South district. Just north is downtown.

In addition to The Glass Factory, New Urban Village Development has two other buildings in the area: The Lofts at Wedgewood Park and The Townhomes at Wedgewood Park. Of note, the façade of 700 Wedgewood Park will feature lots of brick and traditional design elements.

“We had a responsibility to draw on the historical homes and industrial buildings in the area,” said Krebs, who declined to offer a price tag for the project. “We feel the new building will blend well with The Glass Factory.”

NUVD has enlisted Nashville-based Smith Gee Studio (which provided the rendering below) for design work. Bancorp Bank is providing financing.
