The Noog flexes its tourism muscle

The Chattanooga Times Free Press has an interesting story about the economic impact of tourism in Tennessee and, in particular, in Chattanooga.

The numbers show that during the post-recession period — specifically from 2009 to 2010 (2011 numbers are not yet finalized) — Hamilton was the state’s only county that saw a double-digit percentage increase in “domestic travel impact.” The county, home to Chattanooga, generated an estimated $810.1 million in tourism expenditures, according to the U.S. Travel Association.

In contrast, Davidson County/Nashville generated about $3.8 billion for a percentage increase from 2009 to 2010 of 6.3 percent.
